Key Project Details: Inspired by Vedic Design principles, the Tower Building at Tower Oaks is oriented to the east, with a central core and post-tension beams that create expansive, virtually column-free office space spanning 40 feet on either side. The design emphasizes a “people-first” philosophy and, as one of KGD’s early digitized projects, integrated forward-thinking sustainable features such as a potassium permanganate filtration system to purify indoor air; super-efficient mechanical systems; Low-E glass; HVAC economizers; and CFC-free high-efficiency chillers. KGD Principal & Co-President Chris Gordon recalls that frequent site visits were critical to ensuring construction aligned with the drawings – at one point revealing an 18-foot concrete offset that had to be corrected.
Fun Fact: During excavation, the site revealed an unexpected discovery – a skeleton, later traced back to the land’s history as a former graveyard. This remains one of the most memorable stories shared by KGD’s principals about the project. Completed in 2001, the Tower Building still stands as one of KGD’s most iconic designs, continuing to inspire people.
