About Project

KGD Architecture partnered with Gilbane Development Company on the proposal to transform an underutilized County facility into the Veirs Mill Village development, which creates an integrated community-based setting with stable, long-term affordable housing for a diverse mix of residents. The developer team’s vision is to create an innovative intergenerational community which utilizes the strengths and social capital of residents of all ages, as well as leverages the power and natural dynamics of smaller-scale, intimate, fully-engaged community. The project consists of four main uses that are designed and interwoven at a scale and density consistent with the surrounding neighborhood.

At the core of the development and anchoring the residential structures is a new community building to better serve the local senior population’s needs and to foster commingling with the community at large. This site of assembly promotes engagement from all residents of Veirs Mill Village and stimulates the creation of an intergenerational support network that will last for years to come.
