In observance of Monday’s national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Volunteer Arlington hosted a day of service at Washington Liberty High School, focused on advancing Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community through collective action. Volunteers of all ages from Arlington and northern Virginia participated in meaningful service projects. At the request of the Arlington Rotary Club, participants assembled blankets for children living in affordable housing communities, providing warmth and tangible support to local families, and our KGD colleagues were honored and delighted to step up to help in this all-important effort to serve one of the many communities we support and love.
Most importantly, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s mission was to achieve equality, justice, and civil rights for African Americans and all marginalized communities through nonviolent action. His goal was to end racial segregation and discrimination while promoting unity, moral responsibility, and respect for human dignity. This mission was powerfully demonstrated during the 1963 March on Washington, where Dr. King delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, calling on the nation to live up to its ideals of freedom and equality. The march helped bring national attention to the civil rights movement and played a key role in advancing landmark legislation, including the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
