The building exterior with its classic columns and brickwork was designed according to the owner’s desire that the building fit in with the traditional architecture of the town. The interior design combines modern form and traditional function, maximizing efficiency and communication between the government and public areas of use.
This atrium was added late in the design process at the suggestion of the architect, and became a key design element that tied the functions and the aesthetics of the building together. The L-shaped public and private sectors that comprise the building’s work space revolve around the Atrium, and the glass railing encircling the Atrium on the second floor ensures the flow of light and the continuity of the design along horizontal and vertical lines. A stage area on the lawn allows for concerts and other outdoor activities, an integral part of the building program. Flanked by tall columns and brickwork, the entrance includes a landscaped lawn area with flagpoles and a memorial.
