At KGD Architecture, our ability to listen, comprehend and ask the right questions about a project is proven. We do not have a singular design aesthetic. Design is not a style. Design is a process by which we discover what our clients are about and how to convey their message, culture and image through the built environment. Matrices and guidelines may tell us size, office standards and functions, but it’s our process, experience and ability that will create a space or building that reflects the Client’s identity.
Kishimoto.Gordon.Dalaya PC, operating as KGD Architecture, was founded in McLean, Virginia in 1995 by longtime friends Ben Kishimoto and Chris Gordon as Kishimoto.Gordon PC. Much of the firm’s early work leveraged the new partners’ experience in commercial office space, but made small, early forays in future core markets like multifamily, interiors and hospitality.
Manoj Dalaya came on as Principal in 2003, giving rise to the Firm’s current name. The Firm’s second decade saw continued expansion across markets and a move in 2007 to our current, LEED® Gold studio in Rosslyn, just across Key Bridge from Georgetown. The Firm opened new offices in Boston and Bangkok as we continued to explore new possibilities.
The Firm kicked off its third decade with the promotions of Henry Mahns and Tom Donaghy to Principal and a stylish 20th Anniversary soiree. Today the Firm has an expansive portfolio of architecture, interiors and masterplanning projects, and continues to hone specific expertise in the fields of multifamily, including low-income and mixed-generation housing, secure facilities, corporate refresh, hospitality, sustainability and transit-oriented planning.
