The Wills Group Inc. began efforts to expand and revitalize their existing headquarters facilities in La Plata, Maryland, in 2014. Working with TWGI leadership, KGD produced an in-depth program of current and future requirements based on an understanding of multiple functions across all corporate sectors. KGD also provided a real estate analysis that captured TWGI’s capital expenditures and options for expansion over the next 20 years. TWGI purchased the 100 Centennial property to house their growing headquarter functions after considering extensive feasibility studies.
In addition to providing additional space for its growing business, TWGI also sought to create a vision for their new space that aligned with their desired presence in the market. KGD collaborated with Brooklyn-based branding company Emotif to integrate functional design requirements and rebranding efforts into the overall architectural concept for the new headquarters.
Utilizing corporate standards for space type and allocation determined in close collaboration with TWGI, KGD designed approximately 50,000 RSF of office space that includes a mix of private, shared, and open offices, formal and informal conference space, open collaboration and social interaction areas, and a large training facility with an adjoining townhall café. The renovation and revitalization of the new space involved repositioning existing base building elements that included but were not limited to refining the exterior façade to create a more modern and timeless aesthetic, expanding an existing two-story lobby space into a public amenity, and improving and restyling site and garage signage and lighting.
