The office is located within Qatari Diar’s first development in DC called CityCenterDC.
The northeast corner location of the suite on the floor was very distant from the main elevator lobby, giving it very limited presence in the public hallways. This gave us a mandate to enhance the visual stature of the suite on the floor through architectural means.
The chosen solution was to blur the boundary between the public corridor and the footprint of the suite. Marking the entrance, a textured limestone volume stretches out into the hallway straddling both the inside and corridor-side of the suite. Once inside, ideas of continuity, unimpeded sightlines, and carefully detailed transitions are evident throughout the space. All of the design components centered on enhancing visual access throughout the suite which in turn increased the amount of daylight available to employees and visitors. Integrated signage enabled us to display Qatari Diar’s brand elements such as their signature dark purple which was expressed as back painted etched glass with their standard bronze lettering. We also created full height murals displaying images of some of their current projects in the reception area. The murals were rendered on demountable fabric wrapped panels to allow them be replaced. With the enthusiastic engagement of the client during the design process, most of the project goals were achieved.
