HerNdon Transit oriented CORE

The Town of Herndon Metrorail Station is planned to develop as a highly visible and vibrant mixed-use urban community with Class A office space, retail and dining establishments, and urban lifestyle hotels and residences. KGD Architecture was tasked with creating the Urban Design Guidelines, as well as assisting with the new zoning text.

As the gateway urban area from Dulles Airport and directly adjacent to the Dulles Access and Toll Road, the Herndon Metrorail Station area will have unparalleled high-visibility and identity. While the buildings will be designed to form a distinctive skyline viewed from the highway, the workers, residents, and visitors within the center will enjoy pedestrian-oriented and human-scaled walkways, streetscapes, outdoor cafes, and pocket parks. The Metrorail Promenade will visually and physically connect the Metrorail Pavilion and the Herndon Parkway bus stop and vehicle drop-off/waiting area The Promenade will at once be the focal center of and be integrated with the urban fabric of the Metrorail Station Area TOD.
