4949 Battery Lane is a key component of a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Aldon Development to replace six of its 50+ year-old garden-style rental apartment buildings with a mix of modern housing in a rolling, phased approach. In total, 477 apartments will be replaced with 1,530 new units, a net increase of 1,053 units.
KGD Architecture is one of three architectural firms selected to participate in the District masterplan, as well as concept architecture for Site D. KGD’s design consists of a three volume composition to include a street scale base and midrise building and two towers of varying heights resulting in a distinct profile that responds to the surroundings.
The Montgomery County Planning Board gave approval to early plans to redevelop Bethesda’s Battery Lane district in December 2019, marking the first step in the three-round review process by the Board. The construction of this phased development is expected to begin in 2021 or 2022.
